Have you ever walked into a gym and were blinded by the assortment of lights, screens, beeps and contraptions? If you’re like me you gotta go try the whole lot; push every button and move every lever. It’s like you’re a mad scientist and this is your lab. Mwuhahahahaha!
Quite possibly this is not so far from the truth.
Most gyms and clubs today have a wide assortment of equipment that begs to be used. The problem isn’t the gear; it’s what to do (with it). Think about the goals you want to achieve, the types of exercise you enjoy and experiment with the club. Take a class, use a trainer and engage with your fellow members.
“There’s so much to do here,” says Jeremy Hebert, Personal Trainer, CSCS, “one day you can pound weights, the next functional training and then onto metabolic work or bodyweight exercises. It’s really like a playground.”
So think of the gym as an exercise laboratory and you’re the mad fitness scientist willing to experiment until you get the perfect result!
